Rapper chides veteran talk-show host for mispronouncing Tupac's name.

BROOKLYN, New York — Jay-Z's new book, "Decoded," may be about translating the lyrics in his songs, but when the iconic MC sat down with talk-show host Charlie Rose, he promised to "decode" everything.
Rose interviewed the rapper on Thursday before an audience at the Brooklyn Museum for a future episode of his PBS program, and the pair touched on much more than music.
With Beyoncé, his mother and other family members seated in the front row, Jay-Z held court on an array of topics, including Tupac Shakur, his arrest for stabbing a record executive and his drug-dealing past.
"Did you ever do the drugs?" Rose asked the Roc Nation boss.
"Crack cocaine," Jay responded, drawing laughs from the audience. "C'mon, man. That's hard-core, man. Maybe a little weed. A Ballantine Ale. Or a Guinness Stout."
"Decoded," Jay-Z's first book, is part memoir and part deconstruction of his lyrics, which have helped to garner more #1 albums than any solo artist in history.
Sporting a gray blazer, black v-neck sweater, dark denim jeans and designer kicks, Jay-Z was casual and charismatic throughout the evening.
When Rose mispronounced Tupac's name, the rapper humorously chided the talk-show host.
"If it was Tupac," Jay said, pronouncing it "two-pack" and pausing to let the laughter build up, "it would be spelled with a 'k' and not a 'c' at the end. You're not the first to say it wrong, but hopefully, after tonight, you'll be the last." The veteran journalist redeemed himself when he leaned over to give Jay-Z a fist pound, signifying that he had learned his lesson.
Rose probed further into the "Run This Town" star's life, at one point asking about his arrest in the stabbing of former Biggie confidant Lance "Un" Rivera.
"He was stabbed, but he went home without taking an aspirin," Jay responded, defusing the headlines of the past. "He was fine. Don't feel bad for him."
As the conversation neared its end, Rose brought up the guarded rapper's marriage to singer Beyoncé. He pointed to a clip of the two from the video for "O3 Bonnie and Clyde," but Jay chimed in before Rose could ask his question.
"I don't know how I let her wear that Boston hat," Jay-Z said. "She took the B a little too far. That's what I thought of.
"How did I get out of that," he joked, after Rose was flustered and forgot his question.
As of press time, the broadcast date for the episode of "Charlie Rose" featuring Jay-Z had not been announced.

Lisa Vanderpump Details Bloody Restaurant Attack
A Real Housewife of Beverly Hills was involved in a real messy, violent situation early this morning.
As detailed to TMZ by Lisa Vanderpump herself, this reality star was dining at the Beverly Hills Polo Lounge with her husband and another couple when a man at another table started in with the harassment.
Vanderpump quoted the "extremely drunk" man as saying:
"I've seen the show. You're wearing a lot more make-up now, and your eyes are darker and smokier. What are you doing sitting with old people?"
It's not easy being a rich reality TV star.
At this, Lisa's husband, reporter Robert Kovacik, walked over and asked the man to quiet down. He allegedly responded by striking Kovacik in the face and pushing him to the ground.
Police were called to the scene, but Vanderpump and Kovacik did not press charges. *
Instead, they went to the home of Dr. Paul Nassif (the husband of Lisa's co-star, Adrienne Maloof) and took care of Robert's injuries there. Vanderpump says the attacker was "outrageous" and hopes Robert does bring charges against him.
Of course, because this is a reality TV star we're talking about, it must be asked: were cameras around at the time of the confrontation?
* UPDATE: Hours later, the couple returned to the police station and requested that charges be filed.

Lady Gaga Calls Born This Way Her 'Most Innovative' Work
Gaga tells BBC new album crosses genres, from electronic to rock and roll

Lady Gaga hasn't exactly been shy when it comes to describing Born This Way, calling her upcoming record everything from "almost perfect" to "the greatest album of this decade."
And, in a new interview with the BBC, she continued that trend, calling Born her "most innovative" work so far, and promising her fans a musical experience unlike any they've ever heard.
"[The album is] a marriage of electronic music with major, epic, dare I even say, metal or rock and roll, pop, anthemic style melodies with really sledge-hammering dance beats," Gaga said, immediately before jumping onstage at London's O2 Arena. "I think that lyrically this album is more poetic ... It's really written by the fans, they really wrote it for me because every night they're funneling so much into me. So I wrote it for them. Born This Way is all about my little monsters and me, mother monster."
Echoing something she's been saying since the summer, Gaga promised that the album is "finished and all," but that she's currently "fine-tuning everything."
"It's kind of like the post-operative stage of the album," she said. "I've already done the full heart surgery. I'm just sewing myself back up again."
And, to that end, she added that her monsters might not have to wait much longer to hear the album's first single — the title of which is still unknown — telling the BBC it would be released in February 2011, with the album arriving "shortly after."

It's been quite a year for Bret Michaels. He worked with Miley Cyrus twice, suffered a serious subarachnoid hemorrhage, won "Celebrity Apprentice" and denied having an affair with Miley's mom, Tish. Now he's ended the year on a high note, asking his longtime girlfriend, Kristi Gibson, to marry him.
"They swore I was the guy who would never," he told People.com about finally deciding to put a ring on the finger of his girlfriend of nearly two decades. "And it feels awesome."
The proposal, which aired on Monday night's finale of his show, "Bret Michaels: Life as I Know It," wasn't easy to time, according to the Poison rocker, who noted that some people thought it might happen at the couple's anniversary dinner. "I wasn't ready there because I felt really strange," he explained. "It would've been like, I'm in the middle of proposing and oh, by the way, there's a Cobb salad coming."
Michaels admits that while his proposal didn't end up being as epic as he imagined it would be, it worked for them. "In my mind, it wasn't supposed to happen like that — I wanted it to be a little more like the movies, where the white horse gallops up and all that stuff. But when Kristi said, 'I don't need this ring, I don't need the piece of paper, I love you no matter what,' she took the pressure off," he said. "She used reverse psychology on me and it worked!"
Instead of getting Gibson a new piece of bling, the couple will update her "friendship ring with mega benefits." He jokingly added, "It may be the longest engagement in history, but my intentions are good."

Last week, when MTV News revealed our picks for Man of the Year (Kanye West) and Woman of the Year (Lady Gaga), we expected that there would be some folks out there who wouldn't agree with our choices ... mostly, Eminem fans — because, as we've learned time and time again, they don't agree with anything.
But there's no way we could have predicted just how many people were genuinely outraged with our list ... MTV.com readers flooded our site with comments, calling us every name in the book, accusing us of vast multinational conspiracies, and doing everything short of declaring war on our headquarters (please don't attack on a Wednesday, that's Taco Day in the cafeteria). We're only slightly exaggerating.
By far, the biggest point of contention centered on our Man of the Year list ... and, more specifically, why we gave the award to West instead of Eminem. Fans of both men lit up the comments with passionate arguments, with each side working overtime to state their case. It got pretty nasty, which sort of made it even better.
Over on the Woman of the Year list, well, most people seemed to agree that Gaga deserved the honor, though, of course, there were still some out there who believed that Britney Spears was robbed — even though she didn't release a note of music this year. Her fans are just that loyal.
To be honest, we were sort of blown away by just how many of you cared, so we've decided to collect some of the best responses here. But don't think the debate has to end right now ... if you still feel like your voice hasn't been heard, sound off in the comments below. And now, without further ado, let's get acrimonious.

[He was] iTunes' Artist of the Year, Billboard's Best Male and Best Album ... best-selling single in the UK, VMA Best Male and Best Hip Hop, EMA Best Hip Hop artist, MTV's #1 Hottest MC of 2010 ... opened at VMA and BET awards, Recovery already sold 3 million and still counting copies in less than 6 months (I pray Kanye makes it up to 1 million by God's grace), 10 Grammy nominations ... 2010 In 60 Seconds: Comebacks By Kanye, Eminem, Betty White And More
MTV News' pop-culture expert Jim Cantiello takes a look back at the year that was: all in a minute.

Well, 2010 is nearly in the books, and if you're a fan of octogenarians on the comeback trail, "California Gurls" gone wild and swoop-haired Canadian teenagers, congratulations on the best year of your life!
Yes, it was quite a ride ... Kanye West returned to top form, Eminem recaptured his old magic, Taylor Swift moved a million, Rihanna proved to be unstoppable, Katy Perry proved the doubters wrong and Ke$ha, well, she just proved to be Ke$ha. Lady Gaga dared to speak out, Weezy went away, and a host of new stars — everyone from Drake to Justin Bieber to Willow Smith — stepped up to the plate.
In pop culture, we were mesmerized by the exploits of everyone from Amber Portwood to Zac Efron, obsessed with the likes of Antoine Dobson and the "Pants on the Floor" guy, cheered on Betty White and vilified Mel Gibson (and probably Miley, too). We watched as our favorite couples went their separate ways, said goodbye to "Lost," "The Hills" and Jay Leno (whom we then said hello to all over again), and went absolutely crazy for the iPad. Oh, and everything in the universe was made in 3-D.
And all of that was just the tip of a rather sizeable iceberg. It's pretty difficult to sum up 2010 in any way, so let's just say it was the "most" year in recent memory. The most stars, the most scandals, the most use of the word "vuvuzela." There were more shake-ups, breakups and comebacks than we can even remember ... so it's a good thing we've got MTV News' pop culture expert Jim Cantiello to do it for us. Here's his look back on the year that was ... in 60 seconds, of course.

And not only that, when MTV News caught up with Leighton Meester recently — who plays beauty queen-turned-aspiring country artist Chiles Stanton in the flick — she revealed that the filmmakers made sure that each actor was set up with their own music producer in order to fully perfect their singing.
"I think it was really surprising how everything kind of came together," Meester said of her country-music training. "Each of us got our own producers to work with and mine [Nathan Chapman], he works very closely with Taylor Swift, which is sort of similar, in the same vein of the music that I'm making in the movie.
"[Chapman is] kind of like a teenage girl in a grown man's body. He's very good at reaching that young female idea, the music that I sing," she added. "He definitely helped a lot."
Meester went on to explain that shooting "Country Strong" helped her discover a new passion for Nashville and its music.
"Just being in Nashville and working there and meeting the most incredible musicians and producers and songwriters and singers, just being in that world was really cool," the "Gossip Girl" star said. "I have this newfound appreciation for that style of music."
As far as Meester's singing career goes, she said she hopes to go on tour herself one day, and promised that she's hard at work on her album.
"I don't know [when it will be released]," she said. "I recorded three songs recently. I have, like, 20 more to do,. So I don't know when that's going to happen. I just really want it to be perfect. I'm not in any rush. It's all in my heart, and I'm really happy how it's going. I've been very inspired, even with this movie, how I write."
Thanks to a recent stay overseas, Meester said she came back chock-full of potential material for the album.
"I was doing a movie in Budapest and Paris and was so lonely and writing all this music, and when I got back to the States, I got set up with this band," she said of teaming up with Check in the Dark. "And they're perfectly complementary to it and they understand, somehow, my girly emotional side."

Sunny Oglesby & Levi Johnston: Dating Somehow!
Sunny Oglesby is apparently dating Levi Johnston.
While the wisdom of this decision is questionable to say the least, given Levi's track record, they seem really happy - and Bristol Palin is even happy for them!
Levi, 20, has been dating Sunny Oglesby, 19, for two months since meeting through mutual friends. They're even "in a relationship" on Facebook! OMG!!

If you assumed this newfound romance would cause a rift between Levi and baby mama Bristol Palin ... that would be a safe assumption. But an incorrect one.
"I have to be happy for Levi's new relationship because it sounds like his new girlfriend is influencing him to want to actually spend time with Tripp," she said.
"I sincerely appreciate [Sunny's] influence because [Levi Johnston] hasn't asked to see Tripp in over five months, so I'm happy for this new development!"
Passive aggressive much?
If it makes Bristol feel better, Sunny's apparently down for stepmom duty. Or at least meeting the little guy. She currently works as a day care instructor!
"She said she's so excited to meet Tripp," the source says.
"He's been in Los Angeles with Bristol for the past few months for Dancing With the Stars. [Sunny] can't wait to meet him when they get back to Alaska."
Hopefully Levi can fit a visit into his mayoral campaign.
At least he's got one vote in the bag. According to her Facebook page, Sunny is from Oregon but currently resides in Wasilla, Alaska, Levi's hometown.

Lady Gaga Is MTV News' Woman Of The Year
Massive tour, event videos and social causes earn Gaga her second-straight Woman of the Year title.

Lady Gaga didn't even release a proper album in 2010, and somehow, she managed to become an even bigger star. This had as much to do with the fact that she kept working with what she had — the endless tour, the incomparable videos — as it did with her harnessing her hard-fought stardom and attempting to become a force for social change. She spoke out loudly and proudly in support of gay rights and in opposition to the "don't ask, don't tell" policy, and, in the process, she became the kind of star we haven't seen in decades: One unafraid to offend, no matter how much she stood to lose.
And that fearlessness — coupled with her continued chart success and her envelope-pushing event videos — is why we've chosen Lady Gaga as MTV News' Woman of the Year. It's the second-consecutive year she's taken home the honor, which is sort of fitting. After all, no one has dominated both the musical and pop-culture landscapes quite like she has over the past 24 months. This year, she just dominated differently. And so, in honor of her reign, here's a look back at Lady Gaga's 2010, a year in which she moved from pop icon to genuine social force.
2010 Highlights: Gaga began 2010 much like she ended 2009: on tour. In January, she wowed audiences with a triumphant four-night run at New York's Radio City Music Hall and then stole the show at the Grammys with her Elton John duet and appropriately outrageous attire. She teamed with Cyndi Lauper for the MAC AIDS Fund VIVA Glam campaign and paid tribute to the late Alexander McQueen with a performance at the Brit Awards. In February, she began teasing both her revamped Monster Ball Tour and her upcoming "Telephone" video, which would catapult her to even greater fame.
Directed by Jonas Åkerlund and full of nearly as many blink-and-you'll-miss-it pop-culture nods as it was wanton violence and near-nudity, "Telephone" premiered on March 11 and basically became the event video against which all others would be judged. Fans loved it (celebs did too), and the clip would go on to inspire countless YouTube tributes. Needless to say, talk of a sequel quickly followed.
In April, she was announced as a headliner at Lollapalooza and was named one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People. In June, she sent fans into a panic when she told Larry King that she had tested "borderline positive" for lupus and then wowed them with her "Alejandro" video, which mixed German Expressionism with religious symbolism (needless to say, some thought it went too far).
She then told Rolling Stone magazine that her new album was "finished right now" and then premiered the first song from that album, "You and I," at Elton John's White Tie and Tiara Ball. She kicked off another leg of the Monster Ball Tour in Montreal, and, at a later date in Arizona, encouraged fans to protest the state's immigration law. At the beginning of August, she scored a whopping (and record-breaking) 13 Video Music Award nominations and delivered the goods with a surreal set at Lollapalooza.
At the VMAs in September, Gaga won eight Moonmen — including Video of the Year — and announced that her new album would be called Born This Way. But seemingly all anyone wanted to talk about was her infamous "meat dress," which dominated celeb gossip for the remainder of the month. Also of note were the "dates" Gaga took with her to the show: men and women of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, all of whom had been discharged from the Armed Forces (or prohibited from serving) because they were gay.
Inspired by their stories, Gaga began a (very loud) campaign to have the military's long-standing "don't ask, don't tell" policy overturned. She called on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to vote on a repeal of the measure and posted an impassioned video plea, urging her fans to call their senators and demand they vote as well. She held an impromptu rally in Maine aimed at grabbing the attention of Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins. Ultimately, her efforts failed, as Senate Democrats were unable to garner enough votes to begin debate on the matter, though Gaga remained adamant in her support of gay rights, as producer RedOne told MTV News that her Born This Way album would be about "freedom."
She capped 2010 by passing the 1 billion views mark on YouTube, being named one of Forbes' 100 Most Powerful Women and Billboard's Artist of the Year. She scored six Grammy nominations, placed a pair of songs on MTV News' Top 25 countdown, including "Telephone" at #10, and was honored with eight different wax figures by Madame Tussauds. Oh, and then, there's the matter of Born This Way, which is due early next year and, by all accounts, is shaping up to be pretty great. And it sort of raises the question: At this time next year, will we be handing Gaga her third-straight Woman of the Year award? We wouldn't bet against her. As she proved in 2010, anything's possible.
